The County of San Diego Cable
& Telecommunications Review Commission administers the Community
partnership for Local Government Programming Grant program, an annual
program awarding up to $10,000 to nonprofit organizations willing to
partner with a County department or agency to produce video programs
for local government television. The Commission expects to award up
to five grants for the 2001-2002 grant cycle.
The Commission is looking for innovative video projects that inform
and educate San Diegans about issues affecting our community. The Commission
is interested in proposals for programs that deal with issues presently
before the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, and that reflect the
cultural diversity of San Diego County. For this year, the Commission
especially encourages proposals for programs that highlight one or more
of four County Strategic Initiatives: Crime Prevention, Environment,
Self Sufficiency, and Health and Wellness.
Programs that receive funding
may be aired on the County Television Network (CTN). Grant-funded videos
presently running on CTN focus on a wide variety of issues, including
local history, a program for developmentally-disabled artists, how to
choose quality child care, youth recreation programs geared toward reducing
juvenile crime, and responsible pet ownership.
The application cycle began on September 12 with the release of the
Application packets. The deadline for applying is 5:00 P.M. on Friday
November 16, 2001. Successful applicants will receive their awards beginning
in March 2002.
Anyone who is interested in the program may download the Application
packet below, or contact the Cable Franchise Administrator for more
information at bfrasech@co.san-diego.ca.us
or (619) 595-4650.
