Wildlife Services

The role of Wildlife Services is to provide assistance in the management of wildlife damage in an effort to protect human health and safety, agriculutre, property and endangered species.  This is accomplished by providing technical recommendations and/or direct control to resolve, curtail or prevent damage to residents, domestic animals, property and other resources.

San Diego County, along with 33 other counties in the state, contracts with the United States Department of Agriculture for animal damage control services.   This integrated program is carried out with the financial and administrative cooperation of the County, the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the Department of Health Services and the County's Grazing Advisory Board.

Services Provided

We can provide the following services, free of charge:

  • Written materials on how to control various pests.  Click on any of the following animals for information on how to control that animal.

In addition, you can visit the Internet Center for Wildlife Damage Management, a Web site funded by the USDA-CREES Integrated Pest Management Grants Program and the University of Nebraska--Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.   The site is maintained at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  It contains a variety of useful information.  Please note, however, that this site gives general information on control nationwide.  In some cases, California has more stringent laws on the use of certain types of traps and substances to control animals.
