The County is preparing an amendment to add the Quino checkerspot butterfly (Quino) to the list of species covered by the County Subarea Plan of the MSCP. The Quino, federally listed as endangered in 1997, was not originally included as a covered species because too little was known about the Quino when the County Subarea Plan was adopted. The amendment package will include conservation policies, an adaptive management and monitoring strategy, and a financing plan.
To aid in development of the Quino Amendment, an Envirogram has been prepared to illustrate habitat attributes and stressors for the species. The County also gathered input from scientific experts in order to address the potential for habitat enhancement and to address surveying methodology (see documents below).
Components of the amendment have been discussed in stakeholder meetings. Information presented at these meetings is available below:
1. Financing plan (presentation)
2. Conservation Policy Paper
3. Adaptive Management and Monitoring Paper (presentation)
