Utility costs (electricity, natural gas and water/sewer) for County sites were reduced by $1.7 million or 7.7 percent, comparing Fiscal Year 2009/2010 to Fiscal Year 2008/2009. This cost reduction is separate from avoided utility expenses resulting from the transfer of Court facilities to the State of California.
Several factors contributed to the cost reduction including maintaining high building system performance, installation of improved technology in energy and water efficiency retrofit projects and a savvy electricity procurement strategy. Further reductions are expected, due in part, to several new County buildings nearing completion that were designed to greatly exceed the California minimum energy and water efficiency Codes.
