Foreman: Jim Lewis

A Vista resident has been chosen to lead the 2011/2012 San Diego County Grand Jury. Jim Lewis, 67, and eighteen other Grand Jurors officially began serving the community on Monday, July 11, 2011. Lewis is retired after a long career in law enforcement and private industry.

Lewis said he became interested in serving on the Grand Jury after a friend, who had served on a previous Grand Jury, suggested he would enjoy the experience. He applied this year and now will lead the jury. “This is an honor and it is a good way to give back to the community,” said Lewis.

The California Constitution provides for a group of 19 citizens of the county to be brought together and to dedicate a year of full-time “watchdog” service looking into the workings of local government. Lewis says the goal of the new Grand Jury is to look at issues from the outside. “Sometimes when you are involved in your job, you don’t see the forest for the trees. The Grand Jury will look at things from the outside and see things from a different perspective.”
