Information About the Mental Health Management Information System (MIS)
Over the next few years, San Diego County Mental Health Services staff and contracted providers will be implementing new information technology to better coordinate client care, perform required State reporting, bill Medi-Cal, Medicare, and other payers, and perform a range of managed care functions. In addition, the new system will include the foundation for an Electronic Health Record to help ensure a continuum of care for mental health treatment of vulnerable children, youth, adults, and seniors.
The vendor selected for this project, Anasazi, is a national leader in behavioral health management information systems and is based in Phoenix, Arizona. They currently operate systems in California in Kern County, Napa and Kings View. They also operate MIS systems for Harris County, Texas, which is a county comparable in size to San Diego.
The plan is for the new MIS to be implemented in two phases. Phase I involves tracking of client services, billing and managed care functions. Providers will begin using the Phase 1 new system approximately late fall to early winter, 2008. Phase II involves scheduling, assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and a home page for doctors and clinicians. It is expected that full implementation of both phases will take several years to complete.
A workgroup, which includes staff from both County Mental Health and Contractor programs, has been intensely involved in the development of the Phase 1 modules for several months. During the summer of 2008 they will conduct Acceptance Testing of the system and once the testing is complete they will then be able to make the decision regarding the actual cutover date.
