CalWORKs Welfare-to-Work participants can get subsidized child care through the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. Participants are eligible while they are participating in approved welfare-to-work activities, until their children reach age 13 or the family reaches an income above the eligibility limits.
If you have questions, call the Child Care Info-Line at (800) 716-4300.
The Alternative Payment Program provides subsidized child care to some low-income working families who need child care while working or in training. Priority is given to children at risk of abuse, and to foster children whose foster parents work, and then to the lowest-income families. To be evaluated for eligibility for subsidized child care, a family must register on the Centralized Eligibility List (CEL).
