County STD Clinics:

The County has 4 STD clinics, throughout San Diego. All clinics offer testing and treatment for most STDs, vaccines for hepatitis A and B, and HIV testing. All services are offered on the basis of risk assessments, physical examinations, and/or laboratory test results. Clinics are staffed by physicians and/or nurse practitioners as well as nurses. All clinics are walk-in facilities. Appointments are not necessary or accepted. Clinics sometimes close early if capacity is met, so we encourage you to arrive early. Clinics are closed during County holidays. See below for a list of clinic closures.

There is a $15 fee to be seen. The fee can be waived for clients unable to pay. The fee covers a physical examination and, if needed, laboratory tests, certain treatments, vaccinations, and follow-up visits within 30 days. The clinics do not accept insurance. Payment is by cash or check only.

Rapid HIV testing is available at some locations. Click here for a listing of HIV Counseling and Testing locations. There is no cost for testing at HIV Testing Sites.

Getting Your STD Test Results:

You might receive some STD test results on the day of your visit. However, most results are available 1 week after your visit. If any of your STD tests show that you have an STD, our staff will notify you of the result, usually by phone.

If you do not receive a phone call in a week, you may return to the clinic where you were seen to get your results in person. You can also request that our staff call you with your STD test results, as follows:

County Health Services Complex (Rosecrans): Please use our online system (www.surveymonkey.com/STDResults) to request a phone call with your results.

North Coastal Public Health Center: Please call (760) 967-4401 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday from 8 am–5 pm.

Central Region Public Health Center: Please call (619) 229-5405 on Fridays from 8 am – 9 am.

South Region Public Health Center: Please call (619) 409-3110 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday from 8 am–5 pm or Thursday from 12 pm –6 pm.

Getting Your HIV Test Results:

HIV test results done at our STD clinics are typically available in 2 weeks. We cannot, by law, give HIV results over the phone. You must return to the clinic to receive your results in person.

Results from rapid HIV tests, which the County offers at other locations (Click here), are typically available in 20 minutes.

For Clinicians Only:

Clinical consultations regarding STD diagnosis, treatment, and referrals are available by paging a County of San Diego STD clinician at 1-877-217-1816 from 8 am–5 pm weekdays, excluding holidays.
