Are We Making the Grade? 2009 San Diego County Report Card on Children & Families
On May 10th, 2010, HealthLink North County and the San Diego Rural Health Network co-hosted a special joint meeting for a presentation from Paula Ingrum of The Children's Initiative. Approximately 80 professionals, community members and service providers joined HHSA North Regions Deputy Director Donna Hand and Chairwoman Pam Slater-Price's Policy Advisor, Jill Monroe, at the North County Regional Education Center in San Marcos for a presentation centered around The Children's Initiative's biennial Report Card (click link) on the overall health and well-being of San Diego County's children, youth, and families, with a focus on North County data. In the evaluation, participants found the presentation overall valuable with useful data. During challenging economic times, tools, such as the Report Card, can help to focus efforts to stay current, and leverage programs to better serve North County residents.
HealthLink North County Celebrates 10 Years!
For 10 years, HealthLink North County has been working together to improve health and education outcomes for North County school-aged children through the promotion of coordinated school health. HealthLink North County has achieved some great accomplishments over the years: the School Food Summit, the School Fitness Summit and the Nutrition to Grow On curriculum, just to name a few. On September 29, 2009 over 40 partners joined us at the North County Regional Education Center in celebrating the success of reaching this 10-year milestone and highlighted the great work of the collaborative (please click on this flyer link for more details). Keeping in line with the traditional 10-year anniversary gift of aluminum or tin, participants brought canned food donations to support North Coastal Public Health Center’s “Little Angel’s Pantry” to benefit local needy families. Thank you for your commitment to serving San Diego County school-aged children!

"Nutrition to Grow On" Toolkit
HealthLink North County, together with the University of California Cooperative Extension, has developed the "Nutrition to Grow On" toolkit for 4th - 6th graders. These toolkits were created to provide the "tools" and supplies needed to create a classroom garden as well as a nutrition and gardening curriculum. The toolkits were distributed to 21 school districts in North County in March 2007. Technical assistance, training, guest speakers and other resources are available to support the teacher's implementation of the toolkit activities, which also helps to support the goals of district's Local Wellness policy.
