Attention Educators!
Attend a short training session on the Discovery Kit program for Stelzer County Park and we’ll reimburse you for the field trip transportation costs!
The award winning Discovery Kit Program, which sends elementary school-age children on an outdoor environmental education adventure, is at Louis Stelzer County Park in Lakeside. It has assisted hundreds of educators and their students to explore the wealth of nature in their own backyards. It’s a hands-on course that includes pre-field trip activities for classroom use, field trip activities for use in the park, and post-field trip activities for classroom and home use. The curriculum is correlated with the California Science Framework and includes information on fire ecology and the Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP).
Kit titles and grade levels are:
"Birds of Stelzer Park" -- Grades K-1
"Nature Awareness and General Ecology" -- Grades 1-3
"Native Americans of San Diego County" -- Grades 2-4
"Plants of San Diego County" -- Grades 4-6
