In Fiscal Year 2008/2009, Parks and Recreation volunteers contributed a total of over 96,000 hours, providing services that are valued at over $1.9 million. Types of work performed are: open and close parks; mow lawns; clean restrooms; operate blower, weed eater, chipper; small equipment maintenance; haul trash; irrigation maintenance; public relations; lead tours and hikes; provide interpretive programs; greet guests; lead youth educational/recreational activities and projects; coach sports teams; provide child care; patrol; rake; paint; sweep; remove graffiti; staff entry booth; care for gardens and tree nursery; answer phones; data entry; mailings and filings, historical/cultural research; host fundraisers; plant trees; trail construction and maintenance; lead computer labs; assist with special events; and so much more.
