The Section 8 program allows property owners to rent to participating tenants. As a landlord in this program, you may request that your checks be deposited directly to your bank account. If you would are interested in the direct deposit option, please complete an application and return it for processing.  HCD maintains a list of available units for participants to review when searching for a unit.  If you are interested in listing a rental unit, please complete a Vacancy form or submit your information online.  All units must pass a Housing Quality Standards inspection before the subsidy can start.  An inspection checklist is available for you to use to prepare your unit for inspection. For detailed information on inspection standards, review "A Good Place to Live" published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

HCD strives to reduce housing discrimination in all areas of housing. As a landlord, it is important for you to know about this program. You may find more information about housing and discrimination by clicking on Fair Housing Program.

HCD is committed to provide services to accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities, including information on the availability of accessible units.  If landlords have accessible rental units, they should consider listing their units with the HCD, ForRent.com and the National Accessible Housing Clearing House.  HCD is neither affiliated with, nor endorses the National Accessible Housing Clearing House or ForRent.com.  These agencies may have a fee to list units.

In June 2009, a law was passed which gives tenants new rights when their rental unit is being foreclosed on

Landlords, your rental property may qualify for valuable home improvements at no cost to you or your tenant, if your tenant qualifies according to SDG&E Energy Team guidelines.  Learn more by visiting our Energy Savings for Low Income Families webpage.
